Local Roots

The Marsh Coral Springs Was Built Beside

Coral Springs sits on the edge of the original River of Grass, and the wild part never left. According to the city's history, this land was a bean farm and then a cattle ranch on marsh drained by canals and levees after the 1947 floods. West of the city, the Everglades still runs to the horizon.

That is why our closest launch feels almost like a neighborhood errand. Drive west on Atlantic Boulevard, cross under the Sawgrass Expressway and you reach the levee where the managed marsh of the Water Conservation Areas begins. One side is Ramblewood and Cypress Run rooftops. The other side is open water, sawgrass and alligators.

Plenty of Coral Springs families have looked at that levee for years from soccer practice or the expressway and never gone past it. Of all the airboat tours Coral Springs has nearby, a private ride with Aces is the easiest way across. Captain Billy, who has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades, and Captain Bill, a naturalist with three decades on this water, run every trip.

You ride on a small boat with your own group, never a crowd, and every seat is a front-row seat. Our fleet of two-, eight- and fifteen-passenger airboats is on our boats page.

Getting There

Which Launch Is Closest to Coral Springs?

The Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd launch is the closest ramp to most of Coral Springs, and it is a straight run west. From Maplewood, Ramblewood or Wyndham Lakes, take Atlantic Boulevard west to the Sawgrass Trailhead just past the expressway. The exact meeting spot is confirmed when you book.

Families in the north end, around Heron Bay and Eagle Trace, sometimes find The Landing easier. That ramp sits at the end of Loxahatchee Road in Parkland: head north on University Drive or the Sawgrass Expressway to US-441, then west on Loxahatchee Road until the pavement ends at the marsh. The Landing opens onto the Hillsboro Canal, between the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge to the north and Water Conservation Area 2A to the south.

Real miles and minutes from central Coral Springs to each ramp are in the getting-here section further down, and all three of our launches are on the pickup locations page. When you text Captain Billy at 561-660-2419, tell him your neighborhood and he will pick the ramp that fits your day.

Because the drive is short, many local guests book a weekday ride after school or a quick morning before a game at the Sportsplex. You do not need to plan the whole day around it.

Family Days

Airboat Tours Coral Springs Kids Talk About for Weeks

Coral Springs is a family city, and a parent with a carload of kids is exactly who our small boats suit. Here is how a typical family ride goes.

  1. You meet your captain at the ramp, everyone gets hearing protection and a quick safety talk.
  2. The boat runs out through the canal and onto open sawgrass, then slows near tree islands where gators like to rest.
  3. The captain cuts the engine so the kids can hear the marsh, spot birds and ask every question they have.
  4. You run back in with a little speed at the end, which is usually the part they talk about at school.

We see American alligators on the vast majority of trips, from big adults on the bank to small ones tucked into the lily pads. They are wild, so we never promise. Herons, egrets, anhingas and turtles are almost always out too. Before the ride, a stop at the Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital in town is a nice warm-up for younger kids.

Birthday parties work well here. A group of friends on the 15-passenger boat or across two private boats is a party nobody else in the class has had. See our kids birthday airboat tours and our family-friendly day airboat tours.

Getting Here From Coral Springs

How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Coral Springs?

From Coral Springs, the closest Aces launch is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. The usual route: west on Atlantic Blvd to the Sawgrass Trailhead just past the expressway.

  • Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 5 miles, roughly 10-15 minutes by car outside rush hour.
  • The Landing, Parkland: about 8 miles, roughly 20-30 minutes by car outside rush hour.

We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.

Times are measured from central Coral Springs and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.

Why the North Side

Northern Everglades vs. the Tamiami Trail Parks

For airboat tours, Coral Springs sits much closer to the northern Everglades than to the big parks on the Tamiami Trail, and the north side is quieter too. Most airboat operators in South Florida run from US-41 west of Miami or from the far south end of Broward. That means a long drive south, a ticket line and a large shared boat.

Our water is the northern side of the system, the Water Conservation Areas managed by the South Florida Water Management District. It is the same River of Grass, flowing south toward Everglades National Park, but with fewer boats on it. You get wide sawgrass flats, canals along the levees, hammocks of trees rising out of the marsh and long stretches with nobody else in sight.

  • Crowd boats: often 20 or more riders, set routes, a recorded feel.
  • Aces: your group only, a captain who adjusts the route to what you want to see, and stops as long as you like.

For thrill seekers, ask about fast airboat tours with spins and slides. For quiet, the nature tours stay slow and stop often. Either way, it is the Everglades without the theme-park layer on top.

Time of Day

Sunrise, Sunset or After Dark: Picking Your Time

With airboat tours, Coral Springs families usually do best early in the morning or in the last two hours before dark, when the marsh is coolest and the wildlife moves most.

Sunrise. The water is often glassy, birds lift off the tree islands and gators slide out to warm up. Because the drive from home is short, an early start is easier for you than for visitors coming from the beach. See sunrise airboat tours.

Sunset. Golden light over the sawgrass, wading birds heading to roost and a cooler ride home. Good for couples, parents' nights out and visiting relatives.

Night. Our Red Eye Gator tour goes out after dark with a spotlight to pick up the glow of alligator eyes along the canal. Teenagers love it. Read about it on night airboat tours.

Summer brings afternoon thunderstorms that roll in fast and clear out just as quickly, so we plan around them. Check the National Weather Service in Miami or our Everglades weather page before you head out, and wear closed-toe shoes, sunglasses and a hat that will not fly off.

How to Book

Booking From Coral Springs Is One Text

Booking takes one text or call to Captain Billy at 561-660-2419. There is no checkout page and no ticket booth. Tell him the date, how many people, the ages of any kids and whether you want calm and slow or fast and loud. He will match you with a boat, confirm the ramp nearest your house and send directions.

Because every ride is a private boat, the rate depends on the boat and how long you stay out, so ask him for yours. You will not find crowd tickets or surprise add-ons.

Local groups fit well too: team parties after a season ends, scout troops, neighbors hosting relatives for the holidays and coworkers looking for something better than another dinner. See group airboat tours and corporate team building. Guests using wheelchairs ride on boats fitted with a boarding ramp.

We hold a 4.9-star Google rating, and our reviews keep mentioning the same thing: the captain made it personal. If you have been meaning to see what is past the levee, airboat tours Coral Springs neighbors recommend are closer than the mall.

We went with our friends visiting from out of town, and our kids. Captain Bill was so knowledgeable, he knew the area so well and showed us a ton of alligators up close. The tour was a 10/10.

We booked a 2 hour private tour, which seems to be the right amount of time to see everything. Very easy meeting spot at a boat landing. Our captain was fantastic and I can't say enough great things. He put us on some alligators. We will definitely be back.

The Red Eye Gator tour is the best way to see gators, an absolutely awesome experience zipping through the Everglades during twilight. Lots and lots of gators awake and active. Captain Billy is very knowledgeable and one hell of a captain!

What an absolute amazing experience! Our captain is one of the most experienced men in the Everglades. We explored the wildlife including up to 30 alligators, several species of birds, frogs and fish. Well worth it, and you get a private party instead of being with strangers.

What is the closest airboat tour to Coral Springs?

Our Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd launch is the closest for most of the city, reached by driving west on Atlantic Boulevard past the expressway. North-end neighborhoods may prefer The Landing on Loxahatchee Road. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot when you book.

How much is an airboat ride near Coral Springs?

Will we see alligators on an airboat tour near Coral Springs?
