Everglades Airboat Tours From Plantation, FL
Plantation is a city of shade trees and quiet streets, and just to the west lies the wildest marsh in Broward. Our airboat tours Plantation residents take run on a private boat with a native captain, out among herons, spoonbills, tree islands and wild alligators.
“Text or call me and I’ll get you out on the water — I can’t wait to see you out in the swamp!”— Captain Billy, owner & native Everglades guideFor airboat tours Plantation guests can book without a crowd, Aces Airboat Tours runs private rides from the northern edge of the Everglades. From Plantation you head west to the Sawgrass Expressway and north to our Atlantic Boulevard launch. Your group gets its own boat and captain, with wading birds, sawgrass and wild alligators all around.

From Tree City to the River of Grass
Plantation takes its trees seriously. The Arbor Day Foundation first named it a Tree City in 1980, and anyone who has driven through Jacaranda or Plantation Isles knows the canopy that earned it. People here walk the trails at Plantation Heritage Park and Plantation Preserve, and many keep a bird feeder in the yard.
That same curiosity is why we love running airboat tours. Plantation guests ask the best questions. An airboat ride takes the backyard nature you already love and scales it up to the real thing: miles of sawgrass, tree islands standing out of the water and wading birds by the dozen. It is a short trip west for something that feels a world away.
Every Aces tour is a private boat for your group. On our airboats every seat is a front-row seat, with no middle row and no strangers. Your captain can idle for ten minutes beside a heron if that is what you came for, or open the throttle across open marsh if the grandkids are begging.
Those captains are the owners and their crew, not seasonal hires. Captain Billy has more than sixty years in and around the Everglades and built his own airboats by hand. Captain Bill brings more than thirty years as a naturalist captain and loves a good bird question. You can see the full fleet on our boats page.
A City Named for an Everglades Experiment
Plantation's name is a direct link to the Everglades. It comes from the Everglades Plantation Company, which tried and failed to grow rice on drained Everglades land, as the city's history records. The rice never took, but the drainage canals stayed, and the suburbs grew up behind them.
Out west, a large piece of the original marsh survived. The Water Conservation Areas, where we ride, hold water in a broad sheet of sawgrass and wet prairie that still behaves much like the old River of Grass. North of us, the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge protects the northernmost remnant of the same system.
On a ride, your captain can show you what the land under Plantation might have looked like before the rice farmers arrived:
- sawgrass flats that run to the horizon;
- tree islands, raised hammocks where trees and birds crowd together;
- lily-pad pools where young gators hide;
- straight canals and levees that hint at the drainage era.
When choosing airboat tours, Plantation history buffs tend to enjoy a slower nature ride where the captain has time to explain all of this. Pair it with a visit to the Plantation Historical Museum and you have a full day about how this part of Broward came to be.

How Far Is the Everglades From Plantation?
Not far. From most of Plantation you head west on Broward Boulevard or I-595 to the Sawgrass Expressway, then north to the Atlantic Boulevard exit, where our nearest launch sits. It is one of three Aces launches; the others are Stub Canal and The Landing in Parkland, and Captain Billy confirms yours when you book. Exact miles and minutes from Plantation are in the getting-here section below.
The route is easy from anywhere in town:
- From Park East or near Broward Mall, take Broward Boulevard west.
- From Lauderdale West or the south side, I-595 west is usually quicker.
- Pick up the Sawgrass Expressway north and exit at Atlantic Boulevard.
- Park, meet your captain and step aboard.
Because the drive is short, morning airboat tours Plantation families book usually wrap up before lunch, with the afternoon free for a picnic at Plantation Central Park. Visitors staying with family in Plantation can treat it the same way.

How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Plantation?
From Plantation, the closest Aces launch is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. The usual route: west on Broward Blvd or I-595 to the Sawgrass Expressway, north to Atlantic Blvd.
- Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 11 miles, roughly 25-35 minutes by car outside rush hour.
- The Landing, Parkland: about 22 miles, roughly 40-50 minutes by car outside rush hour.
We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.

All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.
Airboat Tours Plantation Birders and Nature Lovers Choose
The ride most Plantation nature fans pick is a slower one built around wildlife. Our bird watching airboat tours spend more time stopped, engine off, near rookeries and feeding spots. Our Everglades nature tours mix gentle cruising with plenty of explaining, and the airboat drifting tours let the boat glide quietly so birds stay put.
What you can expect to see in the marsh:
- Great blue herons and great and snowy egrets hunting the shallows.
- Anhingas perched with wings spread wide to dry.
- White ibis working the mud, and ospreys circling overhead.
- Roseate spoonbills, which never fail to get a gasp when they turn up.
- Turtles on the canal banks and alligators in the lily pads.
Winter is a favorite season for birders. Cooler weather and lower water concentrate wildlife, and migrants join the year-round residents; see our Everglades winter tours. In summer, an early start beats the heat and the afternoon storms.
Bring binoculars and a long lens if you have them. Since the boat is private, nobody will mind if you ask the captain to hold position for one more shot.

Gators, Grandkids and Gentle Rides
Many airboat tours Plantation families book put grandparents and grandkids on the same boat, and our rides suit every age. We welcome all ages, we provide hearing protection to every guest, and the captain sets the pace for the youngest and oldest on board. A slow ride with lots of stops is just as much fun as a fast one.
Alligators are the main event for most kids. We see American alligators on the vast majority of trips, though they are wild, so we never promise. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a good overview of the species if your family wants to read up first, and our alligator tours explain where gators tend to hang out.
Guests with limited mobility are welcome too. Our accessible boats have a wheelchair boarding ramp, so grandparents who use a chair can ride along with everyone else. Details are on our handicap accessible airboat tours page.
A few practical notes: wear shoes that stay on, bring a hat with a strap and sunscreen, and keep phones in a pocket or zip bag in case of spray.

What birds will I see on an Everglades airboat tour?
Common sightings include great blue herons, great and snowy egrets, anhingas, white ibis and ospreys, with roseate spoonbills a regular treat. Winter brings extra migrants. A bird watching tour gives you more time stopped near feeding areas, with the engine off so birds stay put.
Can seniors ride an airboat?
Yes. Seniors ride with us all the time. Seats are comfortable, hearing protection is provided, and your captain can keep the ride slow and steady. Guests who use a wheelchair can board our ramp-equipped boats. Tell Captain Billy about any mobility needs when you book.
Are airboat tours wheelchair accessible?
Ours are. Aces runs boats with a wheelchair boarding ramp, so guests can roll aboard and ride with their family. Mention it when you text or call Captain Billy, and he will make sure the right boat is waiting at the launch.
Can airboats tip over?
Airboats have wide, flat hulls built for shallow water, which makes them very stable at the speeds and conditions of a guided tour. Our captains have decades on this marsh and follow Florida's airboat rules. Stay seated while the boat is moving and you will be fine.
How much is a private airboat tour near Plantation?
Every Aces tour is a private boat. On airboat tours, Plantation groups are quoted by the boat and the length of the ride, not by the seat. Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 for your rate. No shared tickets and no strangers on board.
