Private Rides

Your Crew, Your Boat, Nobody Else

On an Aces tour, the boat belongs to your group and nobody else. There are no strangers squeezed into the next seat, no tour-bus crowd and no awkward small talk with a family from three states away. You ride with the people you came with, and the captain talks to you.

That matters to a lot of our Wilton Manors guests. Friends on a long weekend, couples celebrating an anniversary and chosen-family groups visiting for the holidays all tell us the same thing: the private boat made it feel like their trip. Every seat is a front-row seat, so nobody gets stuck in a middle row.

Aces is family-owned. Owner Captain Billy has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades and answers the phone himself. Captain Bill, a naturalist captain with more than thirty years on this water, shares the tours. Both welcome every guest the same way, and both are happy to let you set the mood: chatty and curious, quiet and scenic, or loud and fast.

Wilton Manors made history in 2018 as the first city in Florida with an all-LGBT+ governing body. Guests from the Island City ride with us often, and they always get the whole boat.

Local Story

From the Middle River to the River of Grass

Wilton Manors already lives on the water. The city sits between the forks of the Middle River, which is why locals call it the Island City. Long before that nickname, the area was known as Colohatchee, until developer Ned Willingham coined the name Wilton Manors in 1925. The city incorporated in 1947.

Head west and the water changes completely. The Middle River wraps around the city. The Everglades is fresh water spread across a vast marsh, moving slowly south through the sawgrass. Our launches sit beside the Water Conservation Areas, a huge managed piece of the original Everglades that the South Florida Water Management District oversees.

If you have walked the boardwalk at Island City Park Preserve or sat by the river at Colohatchee Park, you know how good a little green space feels in the middle of the city. The northern Everglades is that feeling at full scale: sawgrass to the horizon, tree islands, lily-pad pools and canals beside the levees, with no buildings in sight.

Many guests tell us the contrast is the best part. One afternoon you are on Wilton Drive, and a short drive west you are cutting across open marsh with herons lifting off ahead of the boat.

Plan the Day

Airboat Tours Wilton Manors Guests Time Around the Evening

The most popular plan from Wilton Manors is a late-afternoon ride that ends at sunset, with the evening still free. Here is how guests usually build the day.

  1. Late lunch in town. Eat near home, then drive west on Oakland Park or Commercial Boulevard toward the Sawgrass Expressway.
  2. Golden hour on the marsh. Our sunset airboat tours catch the best light of the day, with wading birds heading to roost and the sky turning color over the sawgrass.
  3. Back for the night. The drive home puts you on Wilton Drive in time for dinner and whatever comes after.

Prefer the dark? The Red Eye Gator ride goes out after sunset with a spotlight to find glowing alligator eyes. Read about it on our night airboat tours page.

Early risers can flip the plan. A sunrise tour brings calm water and active wildlife, and you are home for brunch. When comparing airboat tours, Wilton Manors couples usually split between sunrise for photos and sunset for romance. Either way, the exact miles and minutes to our nearest launch appear in the getting-here section below.

How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Wilton Manors?

From Wilton Manors, the closest Aces launch is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. The usual route: west on Oakland Park Blvd or Commercial Blvd to the Sawgrass Expressway, north to Atlantic Blvd.

  • Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 16 miles, roughly 30-40 minutes by car outside rush hour.
  • The Landing, Parkland: about 25 miles, roughly 45-55 minutes by car outside rush hour.

We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.

Times are measured from central Wilton Manors and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.

Celebrations

Bachelor Parties, Birthdays and Friend Trips

Airboats are a natural fit for a celebration, and among airboat tours, Wilton Manors groups book plenty of party rides with us. The trick is choosing the right setup for your group size and energy level.

  • Bachelor and bachelorette parties: a fast, loud ride with spins and slides makes a great start to the weekend. See our bachelor party airboat tours.
  • Birthdays and anniversaries: a private sunset ride for two on one of our 2-passenger airboats, or a whole friend group on an 8-passenger boat.
  • Big crews: our 15-passenger boat carries a larger group on one ride, or we run several private boats together.

Our fleet is small on purpose: two 8-passenger airboats, four 2-passenger airboats and one 15-passenger boat. You can see them all on our boats page.

One note for party planners: the ride comes first and the celebration comes after. Captains need everyone steady on the boat and at the ramp, so keep the toasts for Wilton Drive later that night.

Guests from Lazy Lake, the tiny village tucked inside Wilton Manors, are just as welcome. Same captains, same private boats, same easy drive west.

Wildlife

What You See Out There

The northern Everglades is classic alligator and wading-bird country. We see American alligators on the vast majority of trips, from big adults basking on the canal banks to small ones in the lily pads. They are wild animals, so we never guarantee a sighting. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a solid overview of the species.

Birds are just as memorable, especially around sunset. Great blue herons, great and snowy egrets, anhingas, white ibis and ospreys are regulars, and roseate spoonbills show up some evenings in a flash of pink. Turtles line the canal edges.

The landscape itself is half the show: open sawgrass, tree islands standing above the marsh and huge skies that light up at golden hour. Photographers love the sunset tours for exactly that reason.

Airboats are loud, so we provide hearing protection on every ride. When the captain cuts the engine for a wildlife stop, the quiet that rolls in over the marsh is striking. For more on the animals you might meet, see our Everglades wildlife guide.

How to Book

Booking From Wilton Manors

Booking is a quick text or call, not a checkout page. Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your date, group size and preferred time. He will suggest the right boat and tour, confirm the launch and send directions. The exact meeting spot is confirmed when you book.

Every tour is a private boat, so the rate depends on your group and ride length. Ask Captain Billy for yours directly.

A few tips before you go:

  • Wear light layers, closed-toe shoes or secure sandals, sunglasses and a hat that will not blow off. Our what to wear guide has the details.
  • Leave a little extra time if you are driving west at weekday rush hour.
  • No car? Many guests take a rideshare to the launch. Ask Captain Billy which ramp is simplest for pickup and drop-off.

Read what other guests say on our reviews page, where we hold a 4.9-star Google rating. Airboat tours Wilton Manors friends still bring up at brunch months later start with one text.

Good to Know

Wilton Manors Airboat Tour Questions

Are there airboat tours near Wilton Manors?

Yes. Aces Airboat Tours runs private airboat tours for Wilton Manors guests from three launches on the northern edge of the Everglades. Drive west on Oakland Park or Commercial Boulevard to the Sawgrass Expressway, meet your captain at the confirmed ramp and ride a private boat into the sawgrass.

Is a sunset airboat tour worth it?

Yes, for most couples and photographers. Sunset brings soft golden light, wading birds flying to roost and cooler air. Airboat tours Wilton Manors guests book at sunset still leave the evening free for dinner back in town.

Can we book a private airboat for a bachelor or bachelorette party?

Yes. Every Aces tour is private, so your party has the boat to itself. Groups ride on an 8-passenger boat, our 15-passenger boat or several boats together. Text Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your headcount and date.

How much is an airboat tour near Wilton Manors?

Every tour is a private boat, so text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 for your rate. It depends on group size, the boat and how long you ride. There are no crowd tickets.

Do you take guests from Lazy Lake?

Of course. Lazy Lake is a tiny village surrounded by Wilton Manors, and guests from there ride with us just like their neighbors. The drive west to our launches is the same, and Captain Billy will confirm the easiest ramp when you book.

Where is the best seat on an airboat?

On an Aces boat, every seat is a front-row seat. Our airboats are built without middle rows, so everyone has a clear view of the marsh, the wildlife and the sky. That is one big advantage of a small private boat over a large park boat.

How long is the drive from Wilton Manors to an Aces airboat launch?

From central Wilton Manors, our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard is about 16 miles away, roughly 30-40 minutes by car outside rush hour. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot when you book by text or call at 561-660-2419.

Which Aces launch is closest to Wilton Manors?

For most Wilton Manors guests it is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. We also launch from The Landing in Parkland, our Stub Canal launch, and every launch opens onto the same wild northern Everglades.
