Arrival Day

Fitting an Airboat Ride Around Your Flight

Dania Beach sits right next to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, so for many visitors it is where a South Florida trip starts and ends. An airboat ride fits best on your first full day or the morning after you land, with plenty of cushion left for the drive back and airport security on departure day.

We are honest about distance. Our launches sit on the northern edge of the Everglades, a real drive west and north of the airport, not a quick hop. Some commercial airboat parks are closer to Dania Beach than we are. What you get with Aces is a private boat for your group, a native captain and quiet marsh with no crowd boat beside you.

Here is a simple way to plan an arrival day:

  1. Land, pick up your rental car or check in at a Dania Pointe or airport hotel.
  2. Text Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your flight times and group size.
  3. Ride at sunset that evening or at sunrise the next morning, when the marsh is calm.

On a departure day, a sunrise ride and a relaxed return to the hotel beat squeezing a tour between checkout and a tight boarding time. Captain Billy will tell you plainly if a plan is too tight.

Cruise Days

Before or After Your Cruise From Port Everglades

Yes, an airboat tour pairs well with a cruise from Port Everglades, as long as it falls on the day before you board or after you return rather than in the hours before embarkation. Dania Beach sits just south of the port, which makes it a natural place to stay the night before sailing.

A pre-cruise day works like this: arrive the day before, take a morning or sunset private airboat ride, have dinner back near the beach and board the next day rested. On return day, an afternoon ride before an evening flight can work if your disembarkation and flight times allow it. Tell Captain Billy your ship times and he will plan around them.

We do not run a shuttle, so sort out your bags and transport first. Plenty of guests without a car use a rideshare to and from the launch, and Captain Billy can tell you which of our three launches makes that trip simplest. Among the airboat tours Dania Beach cruise passengers consider, a private boat is the easiest to schedule around a ship, because the boat waits for your group, not a crowd.

For more ideas around a port stay, see our Everglades tours from Fort Lauderdale guide and our list of things to do in Fort Lauderdale. Both cover the area right around the port and the airport.

Airboat Tours Dania Beach Guests Pick on a Short Stay

On a short stay, the airboat tours Dania Beach guests fit in most easily are the sunset ride, the sunrise ride and the classic day tour, because each slots neatly around travel. The signature Everglades airboat tour is the safe first pick: sawgrass, canals and tree islands with stops for gators and birds.

A sunrise airboat tour suits travelers whose body clocks are still on another time zone. The water is glassy, the air is cool and the birds are busy. A sunset tour works on arrival evenings, when you want something memorable without an early alarm.

For a group in town for a wedding, reunion or conference, the 15-passenger boat or several private boats together keep everyone on one schedule. Our corporate team building tours page explains how company groups use the boats. Couples can take a 2-passenger airboat and have the marsh to themselves.

Not sure which fits your itinerary? Text the dates and times you are free, and Captain Billy will tell you honestly which ride works and which launch makes the most sense from your hotel.

Getting Here From Dania Beach

How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Dania Beach?

From Dania Beach, the closest Aces launch is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. The usual route: I-595 west to the Sawgrass Expressway, north to Atlantic Blvd.

  • Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 26 miles, roughly 35-45 minutes by car outside rush hour.
  • The Landing, Parkland: about 36 miles, roughly 55-65 minutes by car outside rush hour.

We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.

Times are measured from central Dania Beach and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.

Local Story

From Danish Farm Town to Airport Neighbor

Dania Beach began as a farm town. It incorporated in 1904 as Dania because most of its 35 residents were farmers of Danish ancestry, according to its Wikipedia history. Today it is better known as the airport's next-door neighbor, with Antique Row downtown, the Dania Beach Pier on the ocean and newer shops and hotels at Dania Pointe.

The wild side of the area is closer than many travelers realize. John U. Lloyd Beach State Park guards the coast, and West Lake Park stretches along the Hollywood line. Head west instead and you trade salt air and sand for the vast freshwater marsh of the Everglades, a completely different world from the coast.

That freshwater marsh is the River of Grass, a sheet of slow-moving water flowing south through sawgrass toward Everglades National Park. We ride its northern end, in the Water Conservation Areas west of the Broward suburbs, where tree islands rise above the sawgrass and alligators bask along the canals.

For travelers flying in from colder places, that contrast is the point: beach in the morning, wild marsh by evening. Our best time to visit the Everglades guide helps you choose the season.

What to See and How to Book From Dania Beach

From Dania Beach, a private ride usually brings American alligators, great blue herons, egrets, anhingas, ibis, ospreys and turtles, along with open sawgrass and tree islands. We see gators on the vast majority of trips, but they are wild and never guaranteed. Read up on them through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission before you go.

Booking works around your travel plans:

  1. Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your arrival, departure or sailing times.
  2. Tell him your group size and where you are staying.
  3. He confirms the boat, the tour and the launch, then sends directions.

Every tour is a private boat, so the rate depends on your group and ride length; ask Captain Billy for yours. He has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades, and Captain Bill has more than thirty as a naturalist captain. Meet them on our captains page and pack with our what to wear guide; hearing protection is provided. Airboat tours Dania Beach travelers remember are the ones that fit the trip, and that is what Captain Billy plans for.

Our family had an incredible time with our captain. He shared so many interesting facts about the alligators and went out of his way to make sure we saw several, despite the weather. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing trip with the best airboat captain ever. My daughter and I were impressed by the whole trip, the cool stories, the amazing Everglades and the hospitality. We got to watch at least 20 gators, even a mother with several babies. Thank you!

Good to Know

Dania Beach Airboat Tour Questions

Can I do an airboat tour on a layover at FLL?

Only on a long layover, and only if you leave the airport with plenty of time. Our launches are a real drive west of FLL, so a short connection will not work. If you have an overnight stop or a full free day, text Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your times and he will tell you honestly if it fits.

Are there airboat tours near Dania Beach?

Yes. Aces Airboat Tours runs private airboat tours Dania Beach visitors reach by taking I-595 west to the Sawgrass Expressway and heading north to our ramps. Some commercial parks are closer, but Aces gives your group its own boat and a native captain on the quiet northern Everglades.

Can I do an airboat tour before my cruise?

Yes, ideally the day before you sail or after you return. Avoid squeezing a ride into embarkation morning. Tell Captain Billy your ship and flight times and he will suggest a sunrise, day or sunset ride that leaves you a comfortable cushion.

Do airboat tours pick up from Dania Beach hotels?

We do not run a shuttle. Plenty of guests take a rideshare or drive a rental car to the launch. Text Captain Billy with your hotel and he will tell you which of our three launches is simplest to reach and confirm the meeting spot.

How much does an airboat tour cost near Dania Beach?

Every Aces tour is a private boat, so the rate depends on your group size, the boat and the length of the ride. Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 for your rate. There are no crowd tickets and no surprise add-ons.

What should I wear on an airboat tour?

Wear light layers, closed-toe shoes or secure sandals, sunglasses and a hat that will not blow off, plus sunscreen. Evening rides can feel cool on the water. We provide hearing protection. If you are flying in, pack a zip bag for your phone in case of spray.

How long is the drive from Dania Beach to an Aces airboat launch?

From central Dania Beach, our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard is about 26 miles away, roughly 35-45 minutes by car outside rush hour. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot when you book by text or call at 561-660-2419.

Which Aces launch is closest to Dania Beach?

For most Dania Beach guests it is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. We also launch from The Landing in Parkland, our Stub Canal launch, and every launch opens onto the same wild northern Everglades.
