Personal Service

A Private Boat, Run by the Man Who Owns It

The person who answers the phone at Aces is the person who owns the boats. Captain Billy has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades, lives on a homestead he built himself and has hand-built airboats over the decades. When you call, you are not talking to a call center or a ticket desk.

That matters to guests who expect things done properly. You tell him who is coming, what they enjoy and what time suits the household, and he designs the ride around it. He will tell you honestly which boat fits, which launch makes the most sense that day and what you are likely to see.

He is joined by Captain Bill, a naturalist captain with more than thirty years on this water, who brings a deep knowledge of the birds, plants and seasons of the marsh. Both are introduced on our captains page.

Every tour is a private boat for your party alone. There is no crowd, no microphone patter and no middle seat, because on our boats every seat is a front-row seat. If you have hosted guests at a big attraction park and watched them shuffle through a line, you will see the difference at once. Our private airboat tours page sets out how it works.

Two Rivers

From a Warm Ocean Current to a River of Grass

Gulf Stream takes its name from the warm Atlantic current running just offshore, a fast blue river in the sea. The Everglades is a river too, only it is very wide, inches deep and so slow you would never notice it moving. That contrast makes airboat tours Gulf Stream hosts arrange a fine conversation piece for houseguests.

The town itself has a story worth telling visitors. According to its recorded history, Gulf Stream began around 1916 as a planned community centered on the Gulf Stream Golf Club. It was developed by Bessemer Properties, controlled by the family of Henry Phipps Jr., and was briefly called Phipps Beach before incorporating as Gulf Stream in 1925.

The marsh west of the coast is far older than any of that. Fresh water spreads south through sawgrass, around tree islands and along canals beside the levees, part of the great system that ends in Everglades National Park. On a ride you cross a wide piece of it that still looks wild, with herons stalking the shallows and alligators sliding off the banks.

Out there, the airboat is the only practical way to travel. A flat hull and an aircraft-style propeller carry you over inches of water and straight through the grass. It feels nothing like a day on the ocean.

For Hosts

Hosting Guests From the Club or the House

An airboat ride is one of the easiest outings to offer visiting family, club friends or business guests, because we handle the whole experience once they arrive at the ramp. You choose the time and the size of boat, and the captain does the rest.

Some ways Gulf Stream hosts use it:

  • Visiting children and grandchildren: a day airboat tour on an 8-passenger boat, with gators and birds at an easy pace.
  • Couples or a quiet pair of friends: a 2-passenger boat at sunrise or sunset.
  • A larger house party or club group: the 15-passenger group boat, or several private boats running together.
  • Business guests: a hosted outing they will mention long after the meeting; see corporate airboat outings.

We provide hearing protection on every ride, guests of all ages are welcome and we run boats with a wheelchair boarding ramp for anyone who needs one; details are on our accessible airboat tours page. Our full fleet is on our boats page.

If you are arranging the outing for guests and not riding yourself, simply tell Captain Billy who to expect. He will confirm the details with you and look after them at the launch.

Getting Here From Gulf Stream

How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Gulf Stream?

From Gulf Stream, the closest Aces launch is The Landing in Parkland. The usual route: I-95 or Florida's Turnpike south to Glades Rd, west to US-441/SR-7, south to Loxahatchee Rd, then west to the end of the road.

  • The Landing, Parkland: about 28 miles, roughly 50-60 minutes by car outside rush hour.
  • Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 34 miles, roughly 50-60 minutes by car outside rush hour.

We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.

Times are measured from central Gulf Stream and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.

Honest Distance

Is the Drive From Gulf Stream Worth It?

Yes, but plan it as a half-day outing, not a quick errand. Gulf Stream sits on the coast in southern Palm Beach County, and our launches are on the northern edge of the Everglades near the Broward line, so the drive is a real one south and then west.

The usual route to The Landing is I-95 or Florida's Turnpike south to Glades Road, west to US-441/SR-7, south to Loxahatchee Road and then west to the end of the road at 15490 Loxahatchee Road in Parkland. The alternative is I-95 or the Turnpike south to the Sawgrass Expressway and on to the Atlantic Boulevard ramp. Real miles and drive times appear in the getting-here section below, so you can judge for yourself.

Why make the trip instead of booking a park closer to the coast? Because airboat tours Gulf Stream guests remember come down to privacy and the captain. You get your own boat on open marsh, without the crowded boats and gift-shop lines many guests expect, with a captain who has lived this place his whole life.

A sensible plan: leave after breakfast, ride in the late morning and be back on A1A for lunch. Or start earlier with a sunrise airboat tour, when the water is glassy and the birds are busiest. We do not run a shuttle, so guests drive or use a car service, and Captain Billy confirms the meeting spot when you book.

Which Airboat Tours Gulf Stream Guests Rate Highest

The rides that earn the warmest reviews from airboat tours Gulf Stream households arrange tend to be the quieter, more personal ones. A short guide to choosing:

RideBest for
SunrisePhotographers, birders and early risers
DayFamilies with children and first-time riders
SunsetCouples, anniversaries and evening hosts
Red Eye Gator nightGuests who want spotlit alligator eyes in the dark
Bird watchingSerious birders in the cooler months

The sunset tour is a natural choice for couples and dinner hosts, and the night tour is a hit with teenagers and adventurous friends. Birders should look at our bird watching airboat tours, especially in winter, when the marsh holds the most variety.

On every ride, we see wild American alligators on the vast majority of trips, along with great blue herons, egrets, anhingas, ibis and ospreys. Roseate spoonbills are a prize when they appear. The animals are wild, so we never promise a sighting. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has background on alligators for curious guests.

How to Book

Arranging It in a Single Call

Booking is a conversation with the owner. Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with the date, the number of guests and the time of day you prefer. Because every tour is a private boat, the rate depends on your group, the boat and the ride length, so ask him for yours directly.

  1. Share the date, party size and any guests with special needs.
  2. Captain Billy recommends the boat and ride and confirms the launch.
  3. Your party arrives a few minutes early and meets the captain at the ramp.

Remind guests to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat that stays on and closed-toe shoes or secure sandals. Winter mornings can be cool once the boat is moving, so a light jacket helps. Our what to expect guide answers the usual first-timer questions, and the National Weather Service in Miami has the day's forecast.

We hold a 4.9-star Google rating, and guests describe their rides on our reviews page. When you want an outing handled with care from first call to last wave, a private ride with Aces is ready when your guests are.

Our family had an incredible time with our captain. He shared so many interesting facts about the alligators and went out of his way to make sure we saw several, despite the weather. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing trip with the best airboat captain ever. My daughter and I were impressed by the whole trip, the cool stories, the amazing Everglades and the hospitality. We got to watch at least 20 gators, even a mother with several babies. Thank you!
