Local Roots

Cattle Ranch, Country Club, and the Marsh Beyond

Atlantis has a ranching past few residents hear about. The city's history records that the land was once Mulberry Farms, a Brahman cattle ranch owned by former state senator Philip D. Lewis. Developers bought it in 1958 to build a gated golf and country club community, and the city incorporated on June 19, 1959.

Today Atlantis is fairways, quiet streets and the greenspace around Atlantis Country Club, with JFK Medical Center and the Congress Avenue shops on its edge. It is a settled, peaceful place, and many residents are retirees who know this corner of Palm Beach County well.

What most have not seen is the land that cattle country once bordered: the Everglades. West of the suburbs the ground drops into open marsh, a sea of sawgrass broken by tree islands and canals. It is the same Florida the early ranchers knew, preserved in the Water Conservation Areas and the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.

Airboat tours Atlantis residents book reach it in one morning. Our Everglades airboat tours run right along that northern edge of the River of Grass.

Your Speed

Airboat Tours Atlantis Residents Can Take at Their Own Pace

On a private Aces boat, the pace is yours, and that is what Atlantis guests value most. Some want a slow, scenic ride with long stops for birds and photos. Others want a burst of speed across the grass. Most want a bit of both, and the captain adjusts as you go.

Every tour is a private boat, so there are no strangers aboard and no rush to get back for the next group. Our boats are stable on the flat marsh and every seat is a front-row seat, with no middle row to climb past. We provide hearing protection for every guest. Look over the fleet on our boats page.

For guests with limited mobility, our ramp-equipped boats let wheelchair users roll aboard. Details are on our accessible airboat tours page. Mention any needs when you call and the captain will plan around them.

The person at the controls makes the difference. Owner Captain Billy has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades and built his own airboats by hand. Captain Bill has over thirty years as a naturalist captain. Both enjoy a guest with questions. Meet them on our captains page.

Getting There

The Route West From the Atlantis Gates

For airboat tours, Atlantis guests should plan on a real drive to The Landing at 15490 Loxahatchee Road in Parkland, our closest launch. Take Lantana Road west to Florida's Turnpike, go south to Glades Road, west to US-441, south to Loxahatchee Road and west to the end of the road. Exact miles and time are listed below by our map engine.

We also launch from the Sawgrass Expressway at the Atlantic Boulevard ramp, reached by heading south on I-95 or the Turnpike. Captain Billy confirms the meeting point when you book, based on your day and the tour you choose.

The drive is mostly highway and fairly relaxed, especially mid-morning once rush hour fades. Many residents pair the ride with lunch on the way back. Our Everglades day trip from Boca Raton guide follows a similar route and has ideas for the rest of the day.

If driving is not your preference, a rideshare to the launch works well. Text Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 and he will tell you which ramp is easiest to reach from Atlantis.

Getting Here From Atlantis

How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Atlantis?

From Atlantis, the closest Aces launch is The Landing in Parkland. The usual route: Lantana Rd west to Florida's Turnpike, south to Glades Rd, west to US-441/SR-7, south to Loxahatchee Rd, then west.

  • The Landing, Parkland: about 33 miles, roughly 55-65 minutes by car outside rush hour.
  • Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 39 miles, roughly 55-65 minutes by car outside rush hour.

We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.

Times are measured from central Atlantis and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.

On the Water

Birds, Gators and a Tee Time Worth Trading

On airboat tours, Atlantis golfers often notice the birds first, because many of the same species visit the ponds on their course. Out on the marsh they appear in far greater numbers: great blue herons, great and snowy egrets, white ibis, anhingas drying their wings and ospreys circling overhead. Roseate spoonbills turn up often enough to keep binoculars handy.

Alligators are the other draw. We see wild American alligators on the vast majority of trips, from large adults sunning on the banks to small ones tucked into the lily pads. They are wild, so we never guarantee a sighting. The National Park Service has a clear overview of how alligators shape the marsh.

Serious birders should ask about our bird watching airboat tours, which slow down for photography. Our Everglades wildlife guide is a good primer before you go.

A sunrise ride in the cool season can feel a lot like an early round: fresh air, long shadows and wildlife moving before the heat. For many golfers it is a fair trade for one tee time.

Family Visits

When the Grandkids Come to Visit

Private airboat tours Atlantis grandparents plan are among the simplest outings when children and grandchildren come to visit. Everyone sits together, nobody needs to hike and kids of all ages get something to remember. Teenagers love the speed, little ones love the alligators and grandparents enjoy the scenery and the captain's stories.

Families usually pick one of these:

  1. Day tour for mixed ages and young children. See day airboat tours.
  2. Sunset tour for golden light and a calmer ride for older guests.
  3. Red Eye Gator night tour for teens who want spotlights and glowing eyes. See night airboat tours.
  4. Birthday ride for a grandchild's special day on the water.

Larger families can ride the 15-passenger boat together or split between two 8-passenger boats. Couples celebrating an anniversary can take a 2-passenger boat and have the marsh to themselves. Let Captain Billy know everyone's ages and he will suggest the best fit.

One Call

Booking From Atlantis

Booking airboat tours Atlantis families enjoy takes a phone call, not a website. Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your date, group size and preferred time, plus any mobility needs. He recommends the boat, confirms the launch and sends directions.

Every tour is private, so rates depend on your group and how long you ride. Ask Captain Billy for yours. In the busy winter months, reaching out a little ahead helps lock in the morning or evening slot you want.

Bring sunglasses, a hat that stays put, sunscreen and closed-toe shoes or secure sandals. Check the National Weather Service Miami forecast the day before, and see our guest reviews to learn why Aces holds a 4.9-star Google rating.

We had an amazing trip with the best airboat captain ever. My daughter and I were impressed by the whole trip, the cool stories, the amazing Everglades and the hospitality. We got to watch at least 20 gators, even a mother with several babies. Thank you!
