Airboat Tours Near Tequesta, FL
Airboat tours Tequesta residents and visitors plan as a proper half-day trip: leave the Loxahatchee River and Coral Cove behind, drive the length of the county and ride a private boat with a native captain into open Everglades sawgrass.
“Text or call me and I’ll get you out on the water — I can’t wait to see you out in the swamp!”— Captain Billy, owner & native Everglades guideThe nearest private airboat tours Tequesta guests can book run with Aces Airboat Tours, from launches on the northern edge of the Everglades, usually The Landing on Loxahatchee Road. Tequesta is about as far north as our guests come, so treat it as a half-day trip. Your boat and captain are yours alone.

The Longest Drive, the Quietest Marsh
Tequesta is the northernmost municipality in the Miami metropolitan area, with parts reaching onto Jupiter Island in Martin County, according to the village's profile. Our launches sit at the opposite end of Palm Beach County. So yes, this is the longest drive we ask anyone to make, and we will not pretend otherwise.
What you get at the end of it is worth the miles: a quiet stretch of the northern Everglades with no crowd boats, no ticket line and a captain who has spent his life on this water. Guests who make airboat tours Tequesta-to-the-Glades a planned half day, rather than a rushed afternoon, almost always tell us it was the best day of their stay.
The engine-measured miles and minutes from the village center to each launch appear in the getting-here section below. Expect a long run south on I-95 or the Turnpike, then a turn west toward the marsh.
If that sounds like a lot, here is a fair comparison: many guests drive just as far to reach the Tamiami Trail parks, then wait in line for a seat on a crowded boat. With Aces, the boat is waiting for you alone. That private boat is the heart of the airboat tours Tequesta families take with us.
A Half-Day Plan From Tequesta
A good half-day plan keeps the drive easy and the marsh at its best. Here is the schedule we suggest to most village families and seasonal residents:
- Text Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 a few days ahead with your date and group size.
- Leave after the morning rush, once the southbound lanes have cleared.
- Ride mid-morning, when the light is good and the birds are still active.
- Stop for lunch somewhere on the way home.
- Be back by mid-afternoon for a swim at Coral Cove Park.
Prefer evenings? A sunset airboat tour gives you golden light over the sawgrass and an easier drive home after the traffic fades. Night owls can try a Red Eye Gator night tour, but plan on getting back late.
Early risers have one more choice. A sunrise airboat tour means leaving in the dark, yet it rewards you with glassy water, cool air and the busiest wildlife of the day. Captain Billy will help you weigh the trade-off honestly.
Every one of these airboat tours Tequesta guests choose is a private boat, so the schedule bends around you.

Why Airboat Tours Tequesta Boaters Book Feel So Different
Tequesta boaters live by the Loxahatchee River: tides, sandbars, no-wake zones and the inlet run. An airboat throws out most of those rules. It has a flat bottom with nothing hanging below the hull, so it skims water only inches deep and even slides across wet sawgrass. The push comes from an aircraft-style propeller on top, and the steering from tall air rudders behind it.
That is why river captains enjoy the ride so much. Instead of watching the depth finder, you watch the horizon. Instead of following a channel, your captain reads the grass, the color of the water and the gator trails through the lily pads.
Florida sets its own equipment rules for these boats, laid out in the state's airboat regulations, and our captains run them every day. Captain Billy hand-built his own airboats and has more than sixty years in and around the Everglades. Captain Bill adds more than thirty years as a naturalist captain.
Want to feel what the boat can do? A fast airboat tour includes open runs and controlled slides across the marsh.
How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Tequesta?
From Tequesta, the closest Aces launch is The Landing in Parkland. The usual route: I-95 or Florida's Turnpike south to Glades Rd, west to US-441/SR-7, south to Loxahatchee Rd, then west.
- The Landing, Parkland: about 63 miles, roughly 90-100 minutes by car outside rush hour.
- Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 65 miles, roughly 85-95 minutes by car outside rush hour.
We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.
Times are measured from central Tequesta and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.
Named for the First People of the Coast
Tequesta takes its name from the Tequesta people who originally inhabited the area. The modern village came much later: it was founded in the 1950s as a planned community around the Tequesta Country Club and incorporated in 1957.
The land those first people knew stretched far inland as wet prairie, marsh and slow-moving water, part of a vast system that drained toward the southern tip of the peninsula. Much of it has since been drained or developed, but large pieces survive in the Water Conservation Areas, where Aces runs its tours, and farther south in Everglades National Park.
Riding the northern marsh gives you a sense of that older South Florida. Sawgrass runs flat to the horizon, tree islands rise out of it like green rafts and the only sounds when the engine stops are birds, frogs and wind.
Visitors who hike Jonathan Dickinson State Park to the north will recognize the same feeling of wild Florida, on a much wider and wetter scale. History buffs on airboat tours, Tequesta residents especially, enjoy that part of the ride. Your captain can explain how water moves through the system today and how restoration aims to return more of its natural flow.

Gators, Wading Birds and Open Sky
The northern Everglades is prime alligator habitat. We see wild American alligators on the vast majority of trips, from big adults on the levee banks to youngsters hiding in the lily pads. They are wild, so we never promise a count. The FWC guide to living with alligators is a useful read for anyone who sees them near home lakes and canals.
Birds fill every stop. Expect great blue herons, great and snowy egrets, white ibis, anhingas and ospreys, with roseate spoonbills when the conditions are right. Turtles sun along the canals, and on calm days the marsh mirrors the clouds.
Birders who know the Loxahatchee River will enjoy the change of habitat on our bird watching airboat tours, which allow longer, quieter stops.
Gators stay active year-round. The dry season, roughly November through April, brings cooler air and wildlife gathered in the deeper channels, which suits seasonal residents nicely. On airboat tours, Tequesta guests also ask about summer: expect a lush green marsh and short afternoon storms, so morning rides are best.
Booking From the Top of the County
Booking is a text or call to Captain Billy at 561-660-2419. He will ask about your date, your group and what you want to see, then suggest the right boat and confirm the launch. Every tour is a private boat, so the rate depends on your group and the ride length. Ask him for yours directly.
Because the drive is long, a little prep helps:
- Pick a backup date in case afternoon storms build.
- Pack water, snacks, sunscreen and a light layer.
- Wear shoes that stay on. We provide hearing protection.
Our fleet runs from 2-passenger boats for couples to a 15-passenger boat for big groups, all with front-row seating. See them on our boats page, and read what past guests say on our reviews page, where Aces holds a 4.9-star Google rating.

Tequesta Airboat Tour Questions
Are there airboat tours in Tequesta FL?
No. Tequesta's waters are the Loxahatchee River, the inlet and the ocean, and there is no airboat marsh nearby. The closest private airboat tours Tequesta guests can book run from Aces launches on the northern edge of the Everglades, a long drive south best planned as a half day.
How far is the Everglades from Tequesta?
It is the longest drive of any town we serve in Palm Beach County, straight down I-95 or Florida's Turnpike and then west. The getting-here section lists measured miles and minutes to each launch. Leaving after rush hour makes the trip much easier.
Can you take an airboat on the Loxahatchee River?
The Loxahatchee River near Tequesta is known for paddling and powerboating, not airboat tours. Airboats belong on open, shallow marsh, which is where Aces runs, on the northern edge of the Everglades west of the Broward and Palm Beach suburbs.
How much does a private airboat ride cost?

Is an airboat tour worth it?
For most guests, yes. A private airboat ride is the only practical way to cross miles of open sawgrass, and it puts you close to alligators, wading birds and tree islands with a captain who knows the marsh. Guests who have made the drive from the north county say the same in their reviews.
What is the best time of year for an airboat tour?
November through April is the most comfortable, with cooler air and wildlife gathered in deeper water. Gators are active all year, though, and summer mornings are green and lively. Pick the season you are in town and ride early or late in the day.
