Airboat Tours Near Westlake, FL
Airboat tours Westlake families take as their first real look at the Everglades: a private boat for your household, a captain with more than sixty years on the marsh and wild alligators in open sawgrass, a planned half-day drive from home.
“Text or call me and I’ll get you out on the water — I can’t wait to see you out in the swamp!”— Captain Billy, owner & native Everglades guideFor airboat tours Westlake residents can plan as a half-day trip, Aces Airboat Tours runs private boats from The Landing at 15490 Loxahatchee Rd in Parkland and from a Sawgrass Expressway ramp at Atlantic Blvd. The drive is longer than from the coast, but you get your own boat, a lifelong local captain and the quiet northern Everglades.

Airboat Tours Westlake Newcomers Start With
Westlake only became a city in 2016, and many of the young families filling its new neighborhoods are new to the area too. Moving boxes, school forms, a fresh mortgage and a long list of things to see. The Everglades is usually near the top.
We think the first ride should be a good one. Every Aces tour is a private boat, so your family is not wedged into a crowd boat with a narrator and a gift shop at the end. Every seat on our boats is a front-row seat, with no middle row, and your captain answers every question your kids can think of.
Choose the boat that fits your household. We run two 8-passenger airboats, four 2-passenger airboats and one 15-passenger boat, all shown on our boats page. Young families of four or five usually take an 8-seater.
Aces is family-owned. Captain Billy, the owner, has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades and still picks up the phone himself. Captain Bill has more than thirty years as a naturalist captain on the same water. Read their stories on our captains page. For people who just arrived, riding with somebody who has known this marsh his whole life is the fastest way to understand where you now live.
Florida's Newest Lakes and Its Oldest Marsh
Westlake is built around a chain of man-made lakes. Its history is short and well documented: the land was farmland in the Seminole Improvement District from the early 1960s, Minto Communities bought about 3,800 acres in 2013, and the city became Palm Beach County's 39th municipality on June 22, 2016, according to the city's recorded history. The name even nods to Weston in Broward County, another planned community full of artificial lakes.
The Everglades is the opposite. It is old, slow and shaped by water rather than by a site plan. Instead of tidy shorelines you get sawgrass running to the horizon, tree islands rising out of the marsh, lily pad pools and canals beside long levees. Water moves south through it, as it has for thousands of years, toward Everglades National Park.
That contrast is what makes the ride memorable for new residents. You leave a neighborhood that did not exist a decade ago and, a drive later, you are in country that looks much as it did before any town was here.
On airboat tours, Westlake kids tend to notice the difference right away: no sidewalks, no houses, no lawn edges, just birds lifting off the marsh as the boat slides past.

Is the Drive From Westlake Worth It?
Yes, if you plan it as a half day. For airboat tours, Westlake sits farther from the marsh ramps than the coastal cities do. Our launches sit on the northern edge of the Everglades in Parkland and along the Sawgrass Expressway, and from Westlake that is a real drive. The getting-here section shows the actual miles and minutes. The payoff is a private boat on a quiet stretch of marsh rather than a crowded park.
The usual route to The Landing:
- Take Seminole Pratt Whitney Road south to Southern Boulevard.
- Head east on Southern Boulevard to US-441/SR-7.
- Go south on US-441 through Wellington to Loxahatchee Road.
- Turn west and follow Loxahatchee Road to The Landing.
The alternative is Southern Boulevard east to Florida's Turnpike, then south to the Sawgrass Expressway and our ramp at Atlantic Boulevard. Captain Billy will tell you which launch fits your day.
Tips for making the trip easy:
- Leave early on weekends; morning traffic is lighter.
- Pack water and snacks for the car.
- Pick a morning ride and you are home for the afternoon.
Families in Loxahatchee Groves and Royal Palm Beach follow the same corridor, so neighbors can compare notes.
How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Westlake?
From Westlake, the closest Aces launch is The Landing in Parkland. The usual route: Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd south to Southern Blvd, east to US-441/SR-7, south through Wellington to Loxahatchee Rd, then west.
- The Landing, Parkland: about 44 miles, roughly 75-85 minutes by car outside rush hour.
- Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 55 miles, roughly 75-85 minutes by car outside rush hour.
We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.
Times are measured from central Westlake and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.
Florida 101 for New Residents
New residents ask the same handful of questions before booking airboat tours. Westlake families usually start with these.
Alligators. They live across Florida, and the FWC's living with alligators guide is worth reading for anyone with kids or pets near water. On the marsh you see them where they belong, from the safety of the boat, with a captain keeping a respectful distance.
Seasons. South Florida has a dry season, roughly November through April, and a wet season the rest of the year. Dry months mean cooler mornings and wildlife gathered in deeper channels. Wet months mean lush green marsh and afternoon thunderstorms, so morning and evening rides work best. Our best time to visit the Everglades guide goes month by month.
Noise and spray. Airboats are loud at speed, so we hand out hearing protection to every rider, including small kids. Spray is usually light.
Airboats themselves. The flat hull and aircraft-style propeller let the boat skim over sawgrass and shallow water where a propeller boat cannot go. Florida sets specific airboat rules, and our captains follow them every trip.

Safari Animals Down the Road, Native Wildlife on the Marsh
Westlake families have Lion Country Safari just to the south, and most kids have already seen animals from faraway places there. The marsh shows them the wildlife that actually belongs in South Florida.
American alligators are the headliner. We see them on the vast majority of trips, often a big one sunning on a bank and a few smaller ones in the lily pads. They are wild, so we never promise a sighting.
The birds are a close second. Here is what new residents most often spot:
- Great blue herons standing still at the water's edge
- Great and snowy egrets, bright white against the sawgrass
- Anhingas with wings spread to dry
- White ibis probing the shallows in groups
- Ospreys circling overhead
- Roseate spoonbills, pink and unmistakable when they turn up
Turtles bask on logs and canal banks. Ask your captain about any of it; Captain Billy can tell you which animals have been around this marsh his whole life. For more, see our Everglades wildlife guide, or book an Everglades nature tour for a slower pace with more stops. Kids who want maximum gator time will like our alligator tours.
Booking From Westlake
Booking happens by text. Message or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your date, the number of riders and the time you want. He matches you to a boat, confirms the launch and sends directions.

Westlake Airboat Tour Questions
Are there airboat tours near Westlake, FL?
Yes. Aces Airboat Tours runs the private airboat tours Westlake residents can reach from launches on the northern edge of the Everglades, in Parkland and along the Sawgrass Expressway. It is a longer drive than from the coast, so most families plan it as a half-day trip.
How far is Westlake from the Everglades?
The marsh lies south and east of Westlake, but roads go around it, so the drive to our launches runs through Wellington or down the Turnpike. The getting-here section shows the real miles and minutes from the city.
How much is an airboat tour near Westlake?
With airboat tours, Westlake groups always ride a private boat, so text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 for your rate. The rate depends on the boat and tour length, and you are paying for your own group's boat rather than seats on a shared one.
What should I know before my first airboat ride?
Wear sunglasses, sunscreen, a secure hat and closed shoes, and bring a light layer for cool mornings. We provide hearing protection. Spray is usually light. Arrive a few minutes early to meet your captain at the ramp.
Can toddlers ride an airboat?
Yes, all ages are welcome. We provide hearing protection for small children, and your captain will keep the pace gentle. Families with toddlers usually pick a daytime ride. Tell Captain Billy the ages in your group when you book.
Is sunrise or sunset better for an airboat tour?
Both are good. Sunrise brings calm water, cooler air and busy wildlife. Sunset brings golden light and birds flying to roost, which photographers love. For airboat tours, Westlake riders face an early start for sunrise, so many families pick sunset or a midmorning day tour.

From central Westlake, The Landing in Parkland is about 44 miles away, roughly 75-85 minutes by car outside rush hour. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot when you book by text or call at 561-660-2419.
