Airboat Tours Near West Park, FL
Airboat tours West Park families plan for birthdays, school breaks and visiting cousins: a private boat for your crew, a captain with more than sixty years on this water and real wild alligators in the northern Everglades, a straight drive up the expressway.
“Text or call me and I’ll get you out on the water — I can’t wait to see you out in the swamp!”— Captain Billy, owner & native Everglades guideFor private airboat tours West Park families most often book Aces Airboat Tours. We launch from three ramps on the northern edge of the Everglades in western Broward and Parkland, reached by I-95 or Florida's Turnpike, I-595 and the Sawgrass Expressway. Each ride is a private boat, so kids get front-row seats for alligators, herons and open sawgrass.

Why Kids From West Park Love a Private Airboat
Kids love a private airboat because they are part of the ride instead of passengers at the back of a crowd. On an Aces tour, your family has the whole boat. Every seat is a front-row seat, so even the smallest rider can see the gator on the bank, and the captain answers every "what is that?" question along the way.
West Park takes play seriously. In 2011 the national nonprofit KaBOOM named it a Playful City USA community, and families here spend plenty of afternoons at McTyre Park and the Carver Ranches recreation center. An airboat ride is the next step up: a real outdoor adventure on the River of Grass.
Our captains know how to keep young riders happy. Owner Captain Billy has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades, and Captain Bill has more than thirty years as a naturalist captain. They slow down for wildlife, explain what the kids are seeing and let the engine roar when the moment is right.
Hearing protection is handed out to everyone, including toddlers. All ages ride, and parents of very young children usually pick a daytime tour so naps and snacks stay on schedule.
Birthday Parties, School Breaks and Cousins in Town
The most popular reasons West Park families call us are birthdays, school vacations and relatives visiting from out of town. Each one works a little differently.
Birthdays. A private ride makes the birthday kid the star, with friends riding together on one boat. Our kids birthday airboat tours page explains how it works. Bigger parties fit on our 15-passenger boat or across several private boats running together.
Spring break and summer. When school is out, a morning ride is an easy way to get kids off screens. In summer, plan for early starts, because afternoon storms are common. Our summer night tours are another option for older kids who want to spot glowing gator eyes after dark.
Visiting family. Cousins and grandparents flying in from colder places rarely forget their first airboat ride. Mixed ages are no problem: the captain sets the pace for the youngest and oldest riders on board.
Planning a field trip or youth group outing from Carver Ranches, Lake Forest or Utopia? Text Captain Billy with your headcount and ages, and he will suggest the right boats and time of day.

Choosing Between Airboat Tours, West Park Parents Ask These First
Parents usually ask three things: how long, how fast and how close to the gators. The answers depend on the tour, so here is a quick guide.
- Signature Everglades tour: the best first ride for most families, with sawgrass, canals, tree islands and stops for wildlife.
- Day tours: bright light for spotting gators, easy for small kids, home by lunch.
- Fast tours: full-throttle runs, spins and slides, best for older kids and teens who want speed.
- Nature and bird watching tours: slower and quieter, good for curious kids who like spotting animals.
- Night tours: the Red Eye Gator ride with a spotlight, a favorite with teenagers.
Our boats come in three sizes: two 8-passenger airboats, four 2-passenger airboats and one 15-passenger boat. A family of five fits nicely on an 8-passenger boat with room to move. See all of them on our boats page.
Not sure which ride fits your kids? Tell Captain Billy their ages and what they are excited about, and he will give you an honest recommendation.
How Far Is the Airboat Launch From West Park?
From West Park, the closest Aces launch is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. The usual route: I-95 or Florida's Turnpike north to I-595 west, then the Sawgrass Expressway north to Atlantic Blvd.
- Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 27 miles, roughly 40-50 minutes by car outside rush hour.
- The Landing, Parkland: about 36 miles, roughly 55-65 minutes by car outside rush hour.
We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.
Times are measured from central West Park and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.
A Young City, a Very Old Marsh
West Park is one of the newest cities in Broward County, and the marsh we ride is one of the oldest landscapes in Florida. Residents voted to incorporate in 2005, making West Park the county's 31st city. The name was only meant to be temporary, a simple description of its spot west of Pembroke Park, but it stuck.
The Everglades, by contrast, took thousands of years to form. Our launches sit beside the Water Conservation Areas, a huge managed section of the original marsh. Water moves slowly south through the sawgrass toward Everglades National Park, and the restoration work described by the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan aims to keep that flow healthy for the next generation.
Kids enjoy that contrast. They can tell their teacher they live in a city younger than their parents and spent a morning in a place older than anything else they know. Captains love explaining how tree islands form, why sawgrass has tiny teeth along its edges and how alligators dig holes that hold water for other animals.
That kind of learning sticks, because it happens outside with the wind in your face.

What Your Kids Will See on the Water
On airboat tours, West Park kids find alligators are the headline, and we see them on the vast majority of trips. Kids spot big adults sunning on the canal banks and small ones hiding in the lily pads. They are wild animals, so we never promise a number, and we always keep a respectful distance. The FWC's living with alligators guide is a good read for families who want to teach kids how to stay safe near ponds at home.
Birds keep little eyes busy between gators. Look for:
- Great blue herons standing still in the shallows
- Great and snowy egrets in bright white
- Anhingas drying their wings on branches
- White ibis and, on lucky days, pink roseate spoonbills
- Ospreys circling overhead
Turtles sun on logs along the canals, and the sawgrass stretches so far that kids often ask where it ends. Many families bring a simple checklist and see how many animals they can tick off. Our Everglades wildlife guide makes a handy one to print before the trip.
