Airboat Tours Aventura Hosts Plan for Visiting Family

Most of the Aventura guests we take out are hosting someone. The grandkids are down for spring break, cousins flew in from up north, or friends are staying at the condo for a week and have already seen the beach and the shops. An airboat ride gives the visit one day that feels like the real Florida.

The city's own name fits the plan. Aventura is Spanish for adventure, and its developers reportedly said, "What an adventure this is going to be." An hour on open marsh with a captain who knows every canal lives up to that better than a mall loop.

Aces keeps it private. Your group gets its own boat, sized to the group: two 8-passenger airboats, four 2-passenger airboats and one 15-passenger boat. Every seat is a front-row seat, so grandparents, parents and kids all see the same gator at the same time. Browse the fleet on our boats page.

You also get a captain, not a script. Owner Captain Billy has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades, and Captain Bill has more than thirty years on this water as a naturalist captain. Meet them both on our captains page.

Honest Distance

How Far Are Our Launches From Aventura?

Our launches are a real drive northwest of Aventura, mostly on expressway. Anyone comparing airboat tours, Aventura included, deserves a straight answer on distance: we are not around the corner. The ramps sit on the northern edge of the Everglades in western Broward and Parkland, which puts the marsh behind the suburbs rather than beside Biscayne Bay.

There are two simple ways in:

  1. I-95 north to the Sawgrass Expressway, then west to the Atlantic Boulevard ramp. This is the route most Aventura guests use.

The real miles and minutes from Aventura to each launch are printed in the getting-here section below, and Captain Billy confirms the meeting point when you book. Our launch locations page shows all three ramps.

Why make the drive instead of heading south to a park? Because you get a private boat on quiet water. The parks closer to Miami run bigger boats with more people. Up north, you share the marsh with herons, not a crowd. If you are weighing the two, our Miami guide lays out the comparison, and the Hollywood guide covers the route from just up the coast.

A morning start keeps I-95 traffic in your favor.

A Different Florida

From Bay Mangroves to the River of Grass

Part of the appeal of airboat tours, Aventura residents tell us, is the change of scenery. Life here is saltwater living: the bayside at Founders Park, the marinas, and Oleta River State Park just to the south. The Everglades is the freshwater side of South Florida, and it feels like a different state.

Out on the water you ride across sawgrass that runs to the horizon, past tree islands of willow and bay, lily-pad pools and long canals beside the levees. This is the Water Conservation Area country managed by the South Florida Water Management District, and to the north sits the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. It is all part of the same slow-moving River of Grass.

Wildlife is the headline. We see American alligators on the vast majority of trips, but they are wild, so we never promise. Great blue herons, great and snowy egrets, anhingas and white ibis work the shallows, ospreys hunt overhead and roseate spoonbills drop in now and then. Turtles line the banks on sunny days.

The airboat itself is part of the fun. Its flat hull and big aircraft-style propeller let it skim across shallow marsh, so your captain can take you places a regular boat cannot reach. When the engine shuts off, the marsh goes quiet. Our wildlife guide covers what each season brings.

Getting Here From Aventura

How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Aventura?

From Aventura, the closest Aces launch is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. The usual route: I-95 north to the Sawgrass Expressway, then Atlantic Blvd.

  • Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 32 miles, roughly 45-55 minutes by car outside rush hour.
  • The Landing, Parkland: about 42 miles, roughly 65-75 minutes by car outside rush hour.

We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.

Times are measured from central Aventura and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.

Choose a Tour

Picking a Ride for Grandparents, Grandkids and Everyone Between

The right tour depends on who is coming. Here is how hosts planning airboat tours, Aventura condo owners especially, match a ride to their guests.

  • Mixed ages: a daytime ride is the safe pick. Bright light makes wildlife easy to spot, and you are back by lunch. See day airboat tours.
  • Guests with limited mobility: we run boats with a boarding ramp for wheelchair users. Details are on our accessible airboat tours page.
  • Couples or anniversaries: a 2-seat boat at sunset is hard to beat.
  • Teens and thrill seekers: a fast tour adds full-throttle runs and spins across the sawgrass.
  • A birthday in the family: our kids birthday airboat tours keep the whole party on one boat.

All ages are welcome, and we hand out hearing protection to everyone, small children included. Let Captain Billy know the ages and any mobility needs when you call, and he will set the pace and pick the boat.

If your visitors care most about gators, ask about the Red Eye Gator night tour, when the spotlight turns up glowing eyes across the canals. It suits older kids and adults best.

Plan Your Day

A Half Day Out From Turnberry or Williams Island

The private airboat tours Aventura residents book fit easily into half a day, whether you live on Country Club Drive, in Porto Vita or on Williams Island, or you are staying at the JW Marriott Turnberry or a Sunny Isles beach hotel nearby.

A typical morning looks like this:

  1. Leave after breakfast and take I-95 north to the Sawgrass Expressway.
  2. Meet your captain at the ramp, get your hearing protection and climb aboard.
  3. Ride the marsh, stop for gators and birds, and ask your captain anything.
  4. Drive home in time for lunch, a pool afternoon or a stop at Aventura Mall, the largest mall in Florida.

Prefer evenings? A sunset airboat tour puts you on the water in the softest light, and you are home in time for a show at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center or dinner out.

Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, closed-toe shoes or secure sandals and a light layer for the breeze. Our what to wear guide has the full list. Check the National Weather Service in Miami before you go; summer storms usually come in the afternoon, so mornings are the safer bet from June through September.

How to Book

Booking Your Ride From Aventura

Booking is a text or a phone call to the owner. Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your date, the size of your group and the ages of your guests. He will suggest the boat and tour that fit, confirm the launch and send directions.

Every tour is a private boat, so the rate depends on your group size, the boat and how long you ride. Ask Captain Billy for yours. There are no crowd tickets and no surprise add-ons.

Plan ahead around busy weeks. Winter and spring break bring the most visiting family to Aventura, so reach out early if your guests have fixed dates.

Groups larger than eight can ride the 15-passenger boat or split across several private boats that travel together, which works well for reunions and condo-association outings. Our group airboat tours page has more.

The Red Eye Gator tour is the best way to see gators, an absolutely awesome experience zipping through the Everglades during twilight. Lots and lots of gators awake and active. Captain Billy is very knowledgeable and one hell of a captain!

What an absolute amazing experience! Our captain is one of the most experienced men in the Everglades. We explored the wildlife including up to 30 alligators, several species of birds, frogs and fish. Well worth it, and you get a private party instead of being with strangers.

Called Captain Bill at 9 AM and asked if he could do a 10 AM run. He said yes and met me right on time. We saw two alligators, a pink spoonbill and numerous herons. If you want the real Everglades with someone who actually lives in them, book Captain Bill. Highly recommended.
