Private Airboat Tours From Miami, FL
Private airboat tours Miami travelers drive north for: your own boat, a captain who has spent a lifetime in the Everglades and wild alligators on the quiet northern side of the River of Grass, away from the busy park docks along the Tamiami Trail.
“Text or call me and I’ll get you out on the water — I can’t wait to see you out in the swamp!”— Captain Billy, owner & native Everglades guideThe airboat tours Miami visitors see first run from large parks on the Tamiami Trail. Aces Airboat Tours is the private alternative: a family-owned outfit launching from three ramps on the northern edge of the Everglades in western Broward and Parkland, roughly an hour north of downtown. Every tour is a private boat with Captain Billy or Captain Bill, so you meet gators and wading birds without a crowd.

Private Airboat Tours Miami Travelers Drive North For
We will be straight with you: Aces is not the closest airboat ride to Brickell. The parks out on the Tamiami Trail west of the city are closer. Most of them sell a seat on a big shared boat.
Aces runs airboat tours Miami guests choose when they want the opposite. Every ride is a private boat for your group only. Our fleet is two 8-passenger airboats, four 2-passenger airboats and one 15-passenger boat, and on each of them every seat is a front-row seat. You can look over the whole lineup on our boats page.
The trade is a longer drive north for a quieter, more personal morning on the water. Guests who make it are usually staying in north Miami-Dade, pairing the ride with a Fort Lauderdale stop, or they already did a park boat once and want the real thing this time.
Your captain is the other reason to come. Owner Captain Billy has spent more than sixty years in and around the Everglades and built his own airboats. Captain Bill, a naturalist captain with more than thirty years out here, runs the other boat. Read more about the private model on our private airboat tours page.
How Far Is the Everglades From Miami, Really?
The Everglades begins right at Miami's back door, but our part of it is about an hour north. Miami sits on a broad plain between the Everglades to the west and Biscayne Bay to the east, so drive west from the city and the suburbs give way to marsh quickly. That western edge is where the Tamiami Trail runs, and where the Shark Valley entrance of Everglades National Park sits.
Aces works a different stretch of the same ecosystem. Our launches sit on the northern edge of the River of Grass, in western Broward and Parkland, beside the Water Conservation Areas. Water in this system slowly moves south through those areas toward the national park, so you are riding the upstream end of the same wetland the Tequesta knew when they lived at the mouth of the Miami River, more than two thousand years ago.
The real miles and drive time from downtown Miami to each launch are printed in the getting-here section below. For a longer look at every way to reach the Glades from the city, read our guide on how far the Everglades is from Miami.
The short version: if you want the closest of the airboat tours Miami offers, stay near the city. For a private boat and a captain who lives out here, drive north.

Northern Everglades or Tamiami Trail: Which Side Fits You?
Both sides of the Glades are real Everglades, so when comparing airboat tours, Miami guests mostly decide on the kind of day they want. Here is the plain comparison.
| Question | Tamiami Trail parks | Aces, northern Everglades |
|---|---|---|
| Closest to downtown Miami | Yes | No, about an hour north |
| Boat | Usually a large shared boat | Private boat, 2, 8 or 15 seats |
| Seats | Rows, some in the middle | Every seat is a front-row seat |
| Pace | Set schedule | Set by your group and your captain |
| Best for | A quick ride close to the city | A personal, uncrowded ride |
The water we run is the Water Conservation Areas, large managed basins of original Everglades marsh overseen by the South Florida Water Management District. It is open sawgrass, tree islands, lily-pad pools and long canals beside the levees, with far fewer boats on it.
If you have one free morning and no car, a park near the city may be the practical call. If you want your own captain, quiet stretches with the engine off and the freedom to stop wherever a gator surfaces, the drive north is what buys you that. See our Everglades airboat tours overview for how a ride is laid out.
How Far Is the Airboat Launch From Miami?
From Miami, the closest Aces launch is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. The usual route: I-95 north to the Sawgrass Expressway (or Florida's Turnpike to the Sawgrass), west to Atlantic Blvd.
- Sawgrass Expressway at Atlantic Blvd: about 41 miles, roughly 55-65 minutes by car outside rush hour.
- The Landing, Parkland: about 51 miles, roughly 70-80 minutes by car outside rush hour.
We also run trips from our Stub Canal launch on request; ask Captain Billy which ramp suits your group.
Times are measured from central Miami and grow at rush hour and on event weekends. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot, parking and what to bring when you text or call 561-660-2419. All three launches open onto the same wild, gator-rich northern Everglades, so pick whichever is easiest for your day. See every launch on our pickup locations page.
Driving to Our Launches From Miami
Most Miami guests drive, and the route is simple expressway most of the way. Captain Billy confirms your exact meeting point when you book, so you only need the general direction.
- From Brickell, Downtown or Edgewater: take I-95 north, or Florida's Turnpike, to the Sawgrass Expressway, then head west and north to the Atlantic Boulevard ramp.
- From the west side or the airport area: take I-75 north to where it meets the Sawgrass Expressway, then follow the Sawgrass north to the Atlantic Boulevard ramp.
- From Miami Beach: cross the causeway to I-95 north and follow the Sawgrass route above.
Weekday rush hour on I-95 can stretch the drive, so an early start or a weekend morning is easier. A rideshare from Brickell or Wynwood works, but it is a long fare each way, so a rental car usually makes more sense for this trip.
Staying at a PortMiami cruise hotel before you sail? A morning ride the day before boarding fits well. Tell Captain Billy your ship times and he will plan around them. If you are already staying further north, our Aventura and Fort Lauderdale guides cover shorter routes.
Not sure which launch is easiest from your hotel? Send the hotel name to 561-660-2419 and you will get a straight answer.

Planning a Glades Day From Brickell, Wynwood or Miami Beach
The easiest plan is to put the airboat ride at one end of the day and keep the city for the rest. Miami is nicknamed the Magic City for how fast it grew, and an hour north you find the opposite: marsh that looks much as it did before any of it was built.
Three plans that work well for airboat tours Miami guests book with us:
- Sunrise and back for lunch. Leave early, ride glassy water while the birds are most active, and be back in Little Havana or Coconut Grove for a late lunch. See sunrise airboat tours.
- Beach, then sunset. Spend the morning on Miami Beach, drive north after lunch and catch the evening light. Couples love our sunset airboat tours.
- After dark. The Red Eye Gator tour goes out with a spotlight to find glowing alligator eyes, then you are back in Wynwood for a late dinner. Details on our night airboat tours page.
Bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays and work outings ride the 15-passenger boat or split across several private boats.
Wear light layers and closed-toe shoes. We hand out hearing protection on every ride.
What You See Out There and How to Book
On airboat tours Miami guests take with us, expect a wide-open marsh full of life. We see American alligators on the vast majority of trips, from big adults on canal banks to small ones in the lily pads. They are wild, so we never promise a count. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a good primer on the species.
Birds fill in the rest: great blue herons, great and snowy egrets, anhingas, white ibis and ospreys, with roseate spoonbills a bonus when they show. Turtles sun on the banks, and tree islands rise out of the sawgrass. Our Everglades wildlife guide covers what you might meet in each season.
Booking is a conversation with the owner, not a checkout page:
- Text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your date, group size and preferred time of day.
- He matches you with the right boat and confirms the launch that is easiest from your hotel.
- You drive north, meet your captain at the ramp and head out.
Every tour is a private boat, so the rate depends on your group and ride length. Ask Captain Billy for yours. Guests rate us 4.9 stars on Google; read what they say on our reviews page, or reach us through the contact page.

Real Google reviews from guests who rode the wild Everglades with Captain Billy and Captain Bill.
Our captain was the best! We live in South Florida and bring guests all the time. By far the most fun. I loved the fast paths and the way we went side to side.
We had a terrific time with Airboating Bill and his mate for the day. They were very knowledgeable about the history of the area and all of the wildlife. We really enjoyed learning his family history and the ride was so much fun.
Our family had an incredible time with our captain. He shared so many interesting facts about the alligators and went out of his way to make sure we saw several, despite the weather. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing trip with the best airboat captain ever. My daughter and I were impressed by the whole trip, the cool stories, the amazing Everglades and the hospitality. We got to watch at least 20 gators, even a mother with several babies. Thank you!

Miami Airboat Tour Questions
Where can I take an airboat tour near Miami?
There are two main options. Parks along the Tamiami Trail west of the city are closest and run larger shared boats. Aces Airboat Tours runs private boats from three launches on the northern edge of the Everglades, about an hour north, for guests who want their own boat and a quieter ride.
How far is the Everglades from downtown Miami?
The Everglades starts at the western edge of Miami-Dade, so the closest marsh is a short drive west on the Tamiami Trail. Our launches on the northern side of the Glades are roughly an hour north by expressway. The exact miles and minutes to each launch are listed in the getting-here section above these questions.
Is it worth driving from Miami for a private airboat ride?
For most guests who make the trip, yes. Among airboat tours, Miami visitors who want privacy find the drive buys a private boat, a front-row seat for everyone, a captain who has spent decades on this water and far fewer boats around you. If you only have an hour free and no car, a park closer to the city is more practical.
Do airboat tours from Miami include hotel pickup?
We do not run a shuttle. Most Miami guests drive or take a rideshare to the launch, and a rental car is usually the easier choice for the distance. Text Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 with your hotel and he will tell you which launch is simplest.
How much does an airboat ride cost from Miami?
Every tour is a private boat, so text or call Captain Billy at 561-660-2419 for your rate. It depends on the boat, your group size and the length of the ride, and there are no crowd tickets or add-ons.
What is the best time of day for an airboat tour?
Early morning brings calm water, cooler air and the most active wildlife, which is why many Miami guests choose sunrise. Late afternoon and sunset are best for photos, and the Red Eye Gator night tour is best for seeing how many alligators live out here.
How long is the drive from Miami to an Aces airboat launch?
From central Miami, our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard is about 41 miles away, roughly 55-65 minutes by car outside rush hour. Captain Billy confirms the exact meeting spot when you book by text or call at 561-660-2419.
Which Aces launch is closest to Miami?
For most Miami guests it is our Sawgrass Expressway launch at Atlantic Boulevard. We also launch from The Landing in Parkland, our Stub Canal launch, and every launch opens onto the same wild northern Everglades.
